Laparoscopic and Robotic Nephrectomy
Laparoscopic and Robotic Nephrectomy
Nephrectomy is a procedure performed to remove a part/whole of the kidney.
Radical Nephrectomy: During Radical Nephrectomy the surgeon removes the entire kidney and some additional structures such as ureter, adrenal gland or Lymph nodes.
Partial Nephrectomy: During partial nephrectomy the surgeon removes the diseased part of the kidney and leaves healthy tissue in place. It is also known as Kidney- sparing.
It is more often performed to remove the diseased kidney or treat kidney cancer or remove non-cancerous(benign) tumors. It is performed by making smaller incisions in the abdomen and using camera, telescope and small instruments known as Laparoscopic nephrectomy.
Robotic nephrectomy is the advanced minimally invasive procedure done for removal of kidney. In this procedure the surgeon sits at the operating end and controls the camera and mechanical arms which have robotic instruments attached to them and perform the procedure.
