Prostate Gland Enlargement

The prostate gland is located near urethra below the urinary bladder through which urine is passed out of the body.

The enlargement of prostate is common in men as they get older. This condition is also known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). In some people, it becomes worrisome, while in others it does not produce any problem.

 Symptoms:

We can identify this issue with some symptoms like,

  • Blockage of urine due prostate gland enlargement.
  • The stream of urine will be weak.
  • Sometimes urine is to be passed very urgently.
  • Need to wait for a while before passing urine.
  • There will be some urine left every time after passing urine.
  • Dribbling of urine after passing
  • Increased frequency of passing urine.

Only in quarter part of men we can see the symptoms, while in utmost of the men symptoms are not seen.

 Effects:

  • Due to the blockage of urethra, there will be the effect on the kidney functioning.
  • There may be a threat for bladder damage.
  • There will be urinary tract infection.
  • There will be blood in urine.
  • As some urine is left in the bladder it may cause stones.

Treatment:

If the symptoms are observed and they are worrisome then, urologist consultation is necessary. Depending on the size of the gland and severity treatment is decided by the urologist.
